Sustainability

At Royal Asscher, beauty is inseparable from responsibility. For more than 170 years, we have believed that exceptional craftsmanship should be matched by high standards of integrity, transparency and care.

Our approach to responsible business is independently assessed through our membership and certification with the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), the leading international organisation setting standards for responsible practices across the jewellery and watch supply chain.

Responsible Jewellery Council

Royal Asscher Diamond Company Ltd has been an RJC member since 2016 and is currently certified against the RJC Code of Practices 2019.

Our current certification:

Certification number: 0000 6659
Certification period: 2 October 2025 – 21 July 2028
Head office: The Netherlands
Scope: Diamonds and coloured gemstones — trader, cutter and/or polisher

RJC certification involves an independent third-party audit assessing a company's practices against the requirements of the RJC Code of Practices. The standard addresses responsible business practices across areas including human rights, labour and working conditions, health and safety, environmental practices, business ethics and responsible supply chains.

Responsible sourcing

We believe that knowing where our materials come from is an essential part of responsible jewellery.

As a downstream company within the diamond supply chain, Royal Asscher works with suppliers to understand and assess their due diligence practices. Our responsible sourcing approach is guided by the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas, as required within the applicable RJC framework.

We maintain policies and procedures designed to identify, assess and address risks within our supply chain, with particular attention to human rights, responsible sourcing and the prevention of involvement with conflict-affected and high-risk areas.

Our Responsible Sourcing and Ethical Business Policy sets out our commitments and expectations for our supply chain partners.

Human rights

Respect for human rights is fundamental to responsible business.

Our Human Rights Policy reflects our commitment to respecting internationally recognised human rights and to identifying and addressing potential human rights risks within our operations and supply chain.

This commitment forms part of our broader approach to responsible business and is supported by the policies and procedures required under our RJC certification.

Ethical business practices

Responsibility extends beyond the materials we work with. It is also reflected in how we conduct our business.

Our policies address key areas of responsible corporate conduct, including:

  • Anti-corruption and bribery
  • Anti-money laundering
  • Employment and working conditions
  • Emergency response
  • Human rights
  • Responsible sourcing and ethical business practices

These policies help establish clear standards for how Royal Asscher conducts business and how we work with our partners.

Transparency and accountability

Responsible business requires more than policies. It requires accountability.

Our RJC certification provides an independent assessment of the systems and practices within the certified scope of our business. We are committed to maintaining these standards and continuously strengthening our approach as responsible business practices evolve.

The RJC regularly reviews and updates its standards to reflect developments in responsible business, human rights, environmental practices and responsible supply chains. The latest RJC Code of Practices was revised in 2024.
